„We need miracles“

10. Juli 2013

„We need jobs. We need good grades. We need green cards. We need American passports. We need our parents to understand that we are Americans. We need our children to understand they are Nigerians. We need new kidneys, new lungs, new limbs, new hearts. We need to forget the harsh rigidity of our lives, to remember why we believe, to be beloved, and to hope.
We need miracles.“
(Tope Folarin, Miracle)
Tope Folarin is the winner of the 14th Caine Prize for African Writing.
Miracle is a short story set in Texas in an evangelical Nigerian church where the congregation has gathered to witness the healing powers of a blind pastor-prophet.
The billiantly written short story gives a subtle insight into the miracle business that exploits the desperate religiosity of so many Africans. Miracle makes you looking forward to Folarin’s forthcoming novel The Proximity of Distance.
